The New Jersey Green Building Manual (NJGBM or Manual) is a comprehensive web-based document that provides economic and environmental best practices for green building. The NJGBM is organized into four sections – New Commercial, Existing Commercial, New Residential and Existing Residential – each of which contains best practice strategies and case studies that illustrate how these strategies have been implemented in New Jersey within a “lessons learned” framework. Best practice strategies include all aspects of green building, but are focused on those that promote energy efficiency in keeping with recent policy trends. The best practice strategies are presented in an operational framework based on a new building’s design-build-operate-evaluate process or on common building upgrades for existing buildings.

PSE&G Energy Technology Demonstration Grant Program:
Development of Affordable ENJOY!-able Energy-Efficient Housing in New Jersey
Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), partners in the U.S. Department of Energy Solar Decathlon 2011 competition as “Team New Jersey” , have received a grant from the PSE&G Energy Technology Demonstration Grant Program.
These funds serve to encourage an affordable building design program developed in parallel and in conjunction with the building of the prototype house entry for the US DOE Solar Decathlon 2011 competition. For additional information on the PSE&G Energy Technology Demonstration Grant Program.

NEW BRUNSWICK, N.J. – While not boasting the familiarity of, say, 42nd Street and Times Square, or Hollywood and Vine, Rutgers Professor Clint Andrews hopes that one day, the intersection of “Green Building and Active, Healthy Living” will be just as recognizable to many Americans, starting with residents of one targeted building in the South Bronx.

USGBC Green Building Research Fund Award
The Rutgers Center for Green Building was among a select group of recipients of a Green Building Research Fund award from the US Green Building Council. The Center was awarded $150,000 for the Investigating Opportunities for Improving Building Performance Through Simulation of Occupant and Operator Behavior research project. Costs and Benefits of Residential Energy Efficiency Investments
On Thursday, July 21st 2011, Jennifer Senick, Executive Director of the Rutgers Center for Green Building presented the results of recent research on the costs and benefits of investments in residential energy efficiency in New Jersey. This research entails modeling of associated energy savings and comparison of the initial costs (e.g. purchase, installation) and lifetime operating savings. For more information on the presentation.
Green Building Benefits: by the Numbers
On May 3rd, 2011, Jennifer Senick was a keynote at the Fifth Annual Greenbaum Commercial Real Estate Conference, in Iselin, NJ, where she addressed the financial and operational benefits of sustainable or green construction in the built and new project environments.
